Hi
bear friends and bear lovers. For more then 10 years now, we, my husband Juergen
- who also created this homepage for which he received this award - and I have
been owners of an old log cabin in the heart of the Kootenays.
Here
we spend the summer together with many bears. We also stayed here for Christmas
two years ago, and it was then that I got the idea to make my own bears. It
was great fun, but in summer it is even better. Then it can happen that a bear
peeks over shoulder.
All of my bears are made from high-quality material. They are hand-sewn according
to my own patterns, have quintuple joints and black/blue glass eyes. The paws
consists of hand-painted suede. Since they are made by hand - and also by intention
- each bear has got his very own personality and is such a unique creature.
Most of my White Spirit Bears are given an individual neck adornment suggestive
of their origin. Each bear comes to you with a certificate.
Hello
there, will you also become a bear?
The
WHITE-SPIRIT-BEARS, Ursus americanus Kermodei,
from the northwest of British Columbia inspired me to make white bears. The
Indians of the southwest coast, the Kwakiutl, gave the white bears the name:
Moksgm'ol. Spirit bears are black bears, not albinos. Approximately one in ten
is born with a white coat. A mother bear can also have offspring with both colors.
And there are also brown black bears and even blue-gray ones. Father bear is
grown up at 4 years of age, reaches a height of a good 2 meters (standing up)
and weighs about 150 kg. Mother bear weighs 100 kg. The children are born at
the end of February, usually 2, and soon start to indulge in their favorite
pastimes: wrestling, exchanging bear kisses, rolling down slopes or lying idly
in the branchwork of a tree.
